Katie Smith

RESTORATION TECHNICIAN

In 2020, Katie completed a B.S. in Environmental Science and Management at U.C. Davis, where she focused on ecology and conservation with a particular interest in riparian restoration and fire ecology. After graduating, Katie dove into conservation planning, working with a variety of governmental and non-profit organizations on projects spanning agricultural, forest, and river systems. This work gave her an immense appreciation for the importance of multidisciplinary teams, great insights into the interworkings of conservation, and a desire to get her hands dirtier. These days, Katie’s excited to learn more about the use of low-tech process based restoration to restore multi-beneficial riparian habitats, to dive deeper into the world of soil health, and to continue learning the strategies and barriers encountered during project implementation.

Having grown up and spent the bulk of her young career in California, Katie feels lucky to have touched and been touched by so many of our exceptional river systems. She owes much gratitude to the Carson, the Yuba, the Truckee, the Navarro, the Eel, and the Russian River and looks forward to adding to the list!
